Emile C. Freeland papers, 1877-1975 (bulk 1926-1967).

The bulk of the collection consists of published and unpublished pamphlets, reprints, notes, and reports related to the sugarcane bagasse industries. Papers include personal items and correspondence and business correspondence including letters from Latin America, Taiwan and Pakistan concerning W. R. Grace & Co. interests in bagasse industry and paper. Letters of recommendation, resumes, contracts, a birth certificate, and passports are included along with items related to the publication of "Tales of a sugar tramp." Samples of bagasse paper and examples of newspapers printed on bagasse paper are included. The collection contains photographs of W. R. Grace & Co. activities in Guyana, Ecuador, Pakistan, Israel, and Taiwan. Included are Freeland's personal photographs depicting subjects related to Louisiana State University and education in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Balliol College, Oxford, England. A brochure for Silliman Female Collegiate Institute, Clinton, Louisiana (1877-1878) is included.

Emile C. (Charropin) Freeland (1896-1988) was a chemical engineer and Louisiana State University alumnus. He worked for W. R. Grace & Co. on projects related to the sugarcane and bagasse industries in Central and South America and the Far East.
